Spring 2024

This was based off of the Literacy Narrative in the final portfolio from Unlearning Argument.
“Snow White”
I see you standing before me,
Scratches and dents taking up space on the surface.
You are the guardian of something I can not see.
An entrance to a whole new circus.
The distance you have traveled is great,
We have been companions for many miles of it.
You hold the key to a mantle I must take,
Yet the view causes me to break into a fit.
This is a task I must endure,
With you alongside.
This maze of streets my grand tour,
One that could not be kind.
As my hands reach for the steering wheel,
I feel like I could defeat a god.
Before I can understand how I feel,
Several statements from another party ruin the facade.
Yet this confidence turns to fear,
I have yet to leave a standstill.
In order to go into high gear,
I must hone my skills.
This fury of information that lacks a response,
And suddenly an enemy from behind.
I look to you for a new renaissance.
And to ease my mind.
At my tender age,
How can I be tasked with such a job?
Operating a vehicle outside of a concrete cage,
Without the guidance of my mom.
For what is it worth I worked for you,
Studied every page and line of ink.
Was I ready for what entered my view?
One piece of paper that could make my hopes sink.
Graphite in hand,
Eye glued to a page.
I listen for one simple command,
“You may gain the gift of your age.”
For success will allow me to,
If a picture is attached,
Proceed to the supermarket with you.
Without a single critique or catch.
