My Portfolio
This is the collection of writing for my portfolio. Each piece is represented by a picture of a window for all over the world. These pieces are a "window" into my experience and growth as a writer. Enjoy window shopping and take your time here!

Unlearning Argument Writ 1622
My final portfolio for this class included a literacy narrative, rhetorical theory and an applied rhetoric project. This was my first collection of college writing. I have had a love hate relationship with writing in high school. I wasn’t a fan of academic writing and only did creative writing when I needed to reflect on a memory or emotion I was feeling. This class allowed me to find love for writing again, all types of writing. I was proud of what I was writing.
Creative Writing and Fiction
Engl 2011
I loved this course. I really enjoy reading other students' work and discussing how they got the idea or inspiration for a piece. This was a lot of collaboration throughout the writing process and helped me get more comfortable with peer feedback. I realized that everyone writes differently and we can learn from one another if we open up to each other and allow them to have a conversation about your work. This piece was super fun to write, I got to make jokes, silly references and try my hand at the topic of aliens! I was smiling the whole time I was writing and editing it.

Theories of Writing
Writ 3000
When I was writing this assignment I felt excited, I had been reading a bunch of horror/mystery novels that month and I wanted to emulate this type of writing in my digital journal for that week. I remembered watching a TV show that had people trapped in a camera after their photo was taken so I based my short story off of that. It was nice to write something different from my usual light hearted short stories but the story did start to get creepy at the end. Turning this in was a different story, I always get nervous and embarrassed submitting my writing to my peers because I mostly write for myself but this story was a step in the right direction to get more comfortable with feedback.
Composition Theory
Engl 3818
For this writing piece, we were looking at writing composition theories based on teaching writing in the classroom and what professors are responsible to teach and expect students to know. This was one of the first pieces that I put my opinion into. I have always had a hard time disagreeing with people and arguing my side of things, I felt that it created unnecessary conflict. Yet, these exercises taught me that a writer’s opinion is important and expressing yourself in a respectful way is an important skill to have.

Biochemistry Research
Chem 2543
This was the first grant proposal that I have ever written. It was a good learning experience for me. The panel of teachers that this grant was presented to was a mix of disciplines so I had to write about my research project with broader language. It was difficult for me to write about my project even though I hadn’t started it yet. It was a lot of assumptions and presenting a good hypothesis. This introduced me to another type of writing that was a part of my major and allowed me to experience it with lower stakes due to the fact that I could have completed the project even if I didn’t get the grant. Luckily for me, they accepted my grant and awarded me funding for my summer research project.
Cellular Microbiology
Bio 3690
Before this class, I had only written lab reports on experiments I had done myself. They weren’t published, consisted of chemistry or biology techniques and tended to have a large percent error due to the learning curve. In this class, we got to look at more complex microbiology articles and interpret the author’s results ourselves. This was another type of writing I had not experienced till this class. I got to express my summary of the article and what I thought was interesting about it. I got to expand my science horizons and look into the world of microbes!

Writing Design and Circulation
Writ 3600
I don’t write a lot of poems, I feel that every poem I have written doesn’t encompass the genre or sound good. Yet, during this project I tried my hand at poetry again and enjoyed finding creative ways to express the emotions from a personal experience. It was fun to change one genre to another and express myself in different ways.
